The Pre-School has a Policy Document, including the aims and objectives, which is continually reviewed and updated.  Help will be provided with reading and understanding where necessary. Some of the more important policies are summarised below.

Admissions

It is our intention to make our Pre-School genuinely accessible to children and families from all sections of the local community.  We arrange our waiting list in order of date of birth and of registering.  Parents are required to complete and sign a registration form and pay a deposit.

Behaviour

We believe that children and adults flourish in an ordered environment in which everyone knows what is expected of them and children are free to develop their play and learning.  They learn to behave in an appropriate way with an understanding of what is acceptable and unacceptable behaviour.  We aim to work towards a situation in which children can develop self- discipline and self-esteem in an atmosphere of mutual respect and encouragement.

Complaints

We believe children and parents are entitled to expect courtesy and prompt, careful attention to their needs and wishes.  A parent who is uneasy about any aspect of the Group's provision should initially discuss any worries or anxieties with the manager.  We also believe it is in the best interests of our Group and parents that complaints should be taken seriously and dealt with fairly, and in a way that respects confidentiality.

Child Protection

We intend to create an environment in our Pre-School in which children are safe from abuse, and in which any suspicion of abuse is promptly and appropriately responded to.  We are legally obliged under the Children Act 1989 to refer any issues or concerns we may have about our pupils, to Social Services.

Equal Opportunities

This Group is run in accordance with equal opportunity guidelines.  Equal opportunity means treating everyone with equal concern according to individual needs.  We believe that the Group's activities should be open to all families, free from prejudice, harassment and discrimination, taking into account their gender, cultural, linguistic and religious backgrounds and any disabilities.

Health & Hygiene

Our Pre-School promotes a healthy lifestyle and a high standard of hygiene in its daily work with children and adults.  At least one member of staff on duty holds an up to date First Aid Certificate.

Safety

The safety of the children in our Group is of paramount importance.  All children are supervised by adults at all times and will always be within sight of an adult.

Special Needs

We welcome children with special needs into our Group.  We believe that all children with special needs have the right to be safe, treated with dignity and their wishes respected and taken into account.  Our Pre-School policy is to ensure that all children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) have the opportunity to develop and achieve at their own developmental pace, in each of the six areas of the Early Years' Foundation Stage.
